Hut 8 Corp. has announced an expanded partnership with Bitmain Technologies, unveiling the U3S21EXPH, a next-generation ASIC miner. The launch represents a significant milestone, with plans for deployment in Q2 2025 and a potential transition to self-mining through a purchase option.

The U3S21EXPH is the first mass-commercialized ASIC miner by Bitmain to feature direct liquid-to-chip (DLC) cooling technology, allowing for enhanced performance and efficiency. Capable of achieving up to 860 terahash per second (TH/s) at 13 joules per terahash, the miner introduces a rack-ready form factor commonly used in high-performance computing (HPC) data centers.

Direct liquid-to-chip (DLC) cooling takes mining machines to the next level by whisking away heat right from the source, letting them run faster without breaking a sweat. This means they can crank out more terahash per second while sipping less power. Plus, the boosted energy efficiency slashes the joules per terahash (J/TH), making these types of machines both supercharged and budget-friendly.

Hut 8, which contributed to its development, plans to deploy the miner at a density of up to 180 kilowatts per rack, leveraging custom-designed data center infrastructure. According to the announcement, Hut 8’s partnership with Bitmain includes a creatively structured hosting agreement, covering approximately 15 exahash per second (EH/s) of hosted machines.

The agreement, the companies disclosed, includes a fixed-price purchase option for Hut 8, providing flexibility to transition some or all hosted machines to self-mining. The deployment is expected to increase Hut 8’s hashrate under management to approximately 33.5 EH/s, with the option to boost its self-mining hashrate significantly.
